Policy In An Event Of A Fire, Accident Or Incident
Children are vulnerable and do not always recognise danger, therefore as a child care professional I know that children need to be supervised constantly and closely according to their stage of development and the activities they are doing.
I have made my home safe and secure by constantly assessing possible dangers and taking action where needed. My home is kept clean and hygienic, equipment is regularly checked to minimise any incidents or accidents that may happen, and the first aid box is accessible, properly equipped and regularly replenished.
In the event of a fire, my first priority is to evacuate the children to safety; this will probably be to a neighbour’s house before calling 999, followed by calling you to inform you to collect your child.
All accidents or incidents involving injury to your child in professional child care, no matter how minor the injury will be recorded in the Accident, Incident and Medication Record Book.
The following details will be recorded:
· The DATE and exact TIME of the accident/incident.
· A description of WHAT HAPPENED and WHO WAS INVOLVED.
· Details of any INJURY sustained.
· How the injury was TREATED and by WHOM.
· The condition of the child FOLLOWING the accident/incident.
· Record details of any witnesses.
I then require you to sign the record to confirm that you have seen the report.
In an emergency, I cannot give permission for medical treatment to your child in my care, regardless of any written instructions to your doctors. In a “life or death” situation medical staff will give any necessary treatment.
I need to have two telephone numbers so that I can contact you during the day in the event of an emergency to give permission for any treatment to go ahead. Therefore it is vital that you fill in your child’s Child Record Form fully, informing me immediately of any changes.
In a real emergency I may have to leave your child and the other children I care for with a designated carer until you collect your child.
This emergency action plan is regularly reviewed.
